00 Wines VGR Pinot Noir 2022

00 Wines VGR Pinot Noir is the flagship blend from Willamette Valley, expertly crafted to reflect the unique character of its vintage. This exceptional wine incorporates over 50% of our highly acclaimed 97-100 point Richard Hermann Cuvée Pinot Noir. Each grape cluster is carefully destemmed by hand, preserving the integrity of the berries. They are then placed in 500L terra cotta amphorae, imported from Tuscany, where spontaneous fermentation occurs with indigenous yeast. After primary fermentation, the juice is pressed into French oak barrels, where it ages gracefully for 18 months, resulting in a refined and expressive Pinot Noir that captivates the senses.

2022 was an unusual but ultimately successful vintage. Despite a unique April frost event, the growing season was exceptionally favorable due to later ripening with a late October pick date which resulted in fresh natural acidity and delicious fruit flavors.

Crafted from fruit typically destined for the Richard Hermann Cuvée, Chehalem Mountain Old Vines, and Hyland Old Vines, this blend offers a nuanced and layered expression for the vintage. On the nose, spicy pepper and forest herbs provide an inviting introduction, soon followed by flavors of red Bing cherries, mountain huckleberries, and bright orange zest. Earthy notes of damp soil and allspice, alongside an umami complexity, bring depth and intrigue to the palate. With sweet fine-grained tannins and moderate-plus acidity, this Pinot Noir exhibits excellent structure and balance, culminating in a truly refined and elegant finish. A little over 1000 cases made.
