00 Wines Chehalem Mountain Chardonnay 2022

The Chehalem Mountain Chardonnay is a remarkable expression of biodynamic viticulture, sourced from vineyards nestled in sedimentary soils. Facing Ribbon Ridge to the east, this wine showcases the distinctive characteristics of the Ribbon Ridge AVA, with flavors that evoke the elegance of Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy. Crafted using the innovative "Black Chardonnay Method," the grapes undergo foot crushing and overnight skin contact, followed by a long press for maximum phenolic extraction. With no sulfites added, the juice ages for 12 months on the lees in barrel and finishes for 6 months in stainless steel, resulting in a vibrant, complex wine with exceptional depth.

2022 was an unusual but ultimately successful vintage. Despite a unique April frost event, the growing season was exceptionally favorable due to later ripening with a late October pick date which resulted in fresh natural acidity and delicious fruit flavors.

"The 2022 Chardonnay Chehalem Mountain pulls the taster down into the earth as a whiff of flowery underbrush, wet stones and crushed rocks leads to musky apricot and the slightest hint of patchouli. Vividly fruit-focused within, it cascades across the palate with ripe orchard fruits and candied cirtus tones, all perfectly offset by a whiplash of zesty acidity and a stern core of salty minerals. The leaves the palate saturated in a saline concentration and lemony intensity, tapering off with extreme length and sapidity. The 2022 will require patience to come together fully, especially aromatically, but once it does-look out!"
