Michel Bouzereau et Fils Bourgogne Chardonnay 2016

ourgogne Blanc is the appellation used to refer to generic white wines from Burgundy, a wide term which allows 384 separate villages to produce a white wine with the label ‘Bourgogne.’ As a result of this variety, Bourgogne Blanc is very hard to characterise with a single notable style, however the wines are usually dominated by the presence of Chardonnay.

Larger 300-litre barrels are preferred for this wine, now accounting for 60% of the crop. This is an important cuvée, about one-third of the domaine’s overall production. It comes from one parcel in Puligny and three in Meursault. The bouquet entices with a citrus lift and the wine, one of the best of its type, is very appealing.

An elegant and ripe nose combines notes of violet, red and dark currant and a whiff of crushed fennel. There is an appealing texture to the middle weight flavors that terminate in firm, serious and youthfully austere finish. This is really quite good for its level and worth considering.
