The year was 1991, Sarah and Sparky Marquis had recently married on the back of finishing their winemaking studies with the world at their feet. They had each other, they had $1000 between them and they had dreams of developing their own business. They wanted to succeed in a career they were both passionate about, help others when possible, and to always have fun.
Success soon found them as they were named Australian Winemakers of the Year in 1999. Global wine aficionado, Robert Parker from the Wine Advocate, wrote about the wines they made as ‘The greatest red wine values in existence… Run, don’t walk and secure as much as you can of these wines!’ They were also named as one of Robert Parker’s ‘Top Wine Personalities in the World.’
In August 2006, when the Carnival of Love (WA:99) and Enchanted Path (WA:96) were released they sold out in five days!

Deep garnet-brick colored, the 2005 Carnival of Love displays a more earthy, meaty, gamey character with plenty of coffee and damp loam aromas fused with smoked bacon, some iron ore, Chinese plums, a little floral note and even a bit of truffles character coming through. It is very rich and full-bodied, with the acid line standing out a little from the very concentrated and quite evolved fruit core. Still, it has amazing layers and a lot to give on the very long, licorice-laced finish, even if just a bit warm. (LPB)
