Roberto Voerzio is one of the living winemaking legends in Piedmont and one of the staunch believer in lowering yield to maximize quality. As Antonio Galloni puts it, “one of the central tenets of the Voerzio approach...is a steadfast belief that the relationship between low yields and high quality is always linear.” That, and Voerzio's artisanal way of winemaking, contribute to the sheer, uninimitable quality of his Barolos. Roberto Voerzio was founded in 1986 in La Morra which is a village deep in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont. The wines are typically sold at auction and are known for being ripe, opulent, tannic, and made for aging. Roberto Voerzio’s fruit comes from their 21 acres of some of the best and oldest vineyeards in La Morra, which are mentioned municipality documents dating back to 1350. Their esteemed wines are made from the six different, low-yielding Barolo Crus: Brunate, Cerequio, Capalot, La Serra, Pozzo dell’Anunziata, and Sarmassa di Barolo. Roberto Voerzio’s portfolio is rounded out by its two Barbera d’Alba wines, a Dolcetto d’Alba, a Langhe Merlot, and a Langhe Nebbiolo. The combination of traditional winemaking methods with a modern take has made Voerzio a new-age example for Barolo.

“The 2004 Barolo Cerequio has been nothing short of profound on the four previous occasions I have tasted it and it is equally superb now that it is in bottle. It flows from the glass with a beautiful, pure expression of roses, flowers, sweet spices and ripe red fruit. This richly-textured, sumptuous Barolo literally shimmers with fruit from start to finish. The glorious, complete 2004 Cerequio is a superb effort from the inspired Roberto Voerzio.
