Alain Hudelot-Noellat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers 2016

This is a Premier Cru red wine from the Côte de Nuits region, in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. This region is renowned for its excellent Pinot Noir grapes, which produce high-quality red wines.
The Alain Hudelot-Noellat winery is one of the most famous in this region, known for producing typical Nuits-Saint-Georges style wines. The winery is located in the village of Premeaux-Prissey and has excellent vineyards.

The Les Murgers Premier Cru vineyard is located on the slopes of Nuits-Saint-Georges, with a soil composed of crushed stones, which greatly reflects the local terroir characteristics. The 2016 vintage is considered an excellent year, with a bountiful and high-quality grape harvest.

The wine displays a deep ruby color, a medium-bodied to full-bodied structure, with rich yet smooth tannins. It exudes concentrated aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, and spices, with a balanced body and a long finish. It pairs well with meat dishes, game, and other fatty cuisines.

Vinous – 90-92
Dark red with ruby highlights. Inky aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry pie, licorice, mint, violet and crushed stone. Juicy and penetrating but also showing lovely sweetness and thickness of texture–and finer-grained than the Petits Vougeot. Still a bit reduced and gassy, as the malolactic fermentation only ended in late September. But this wine already displays lovely acidity and mid-palate definition and finishes with suave tannins and sneaky rising length. Quite perfumed on the aftertaste; very much a Vosne style of Nuits.

"The 2016 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Murgers was showing some reduction on the nose. The palate is more readable with mainly red berry fruit, mixed with hoisin and a faint oyster shell influence. The tannins feel quite firm but not oppressive, although it just needs more weight and flesh to come through on the finish."
