Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte wines are held in high esteem, recognised as one of the prime estates in the appellation of Pessac-Leognan. It has a respected history, having been awarded Grand Cru Classe status in the 1959 Classification of the Graves, but it’s also significantly improved its production of wine since being bought, in 1990, by former Olympic skiers Daniel and Florence Cathiard.

 With the expert guidance of Michel Rolland, who was brought in as a consultant, the estate has thrived in recent years. Chateau Smith Haute Lafitte produces both a red grand vin and a white grand vin. The red is a 60-30 split blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot; the white is mostly Sauvignon Blanc.

"Lemon confit, smoke, slate and orchard fruit abound in the 2017 Le Petit Haut Lafitte Blanc. The flavors are brisk, precise and wonderfully nuanced in this super-expressive second white wine from Smith Haut Lafitte. Intense aromatics carry through to the super-expressive, nuanced finish. The Sémillon is taken from the same parcels that inform the Grand Vin because of the small amount of Sémillon on the estate."
